Celebrate the National Portrait Gallery’s Reopening!
On July 1, 2006 the National Portrait Gallery welcomed home our treasured collections to a newly restored historic building in Washington. Among our thousands of artworks returning to public view in the nation’s capital are the famous “Lansdowne” portrait of George Washington, as well as portraits of notable Americans such as Marilyn Monroe and Shaquille O’Neal.
